Chapter one: Introduction to Droomzicht

These series are about the families that are living in Droomzicht, the Dutch Pleasantview. I was inspired to play this neighborhood prosperity style, because of the posts in the Prosperity challenge Yahoo group. Not only I chose to play the original Droomzicht-families, but also the pre-made Maxis families of Academie le Tour and Bluewater.

Right now I am halfway through the first round of 3 simdays. Let me tell you what happened to the first 4 families and the first couple of YA’s.

Marja Groots
Marja Groots is a knowledge YA, that got to leave the sim bin and went to a dorm. She is a 6-1-3-6-9 aquarius with the LTW to become a mad scientist. She is a very succesful student, but also managed to fall in love with Martijn Novar.

Marja in love

Martijn Novar is a playable YA, a family sim. Since I haven’t played his house yet, I don’t know his LTW.

Martijn and Marja are madly in love and Marja asked him to get engaged. And he accepted.

The Abdellaoui family
This bluewater family is called Ramirez in the English game. In Dutch they are Samir, Habiba and Charouk Abdellaoui. Samir is a fortune sim with the LTW to become a tycoon. He is 3-6-5-4-6 aquarius. He is happily married to Habiba, a knowledge sim with the want to become chief of staff. She is a 7-2-2-6-8 capricorn. Their daughter Charouk is a 5-7-5-4-4 aries.

Charouk likes to read books and study. She also likes to make friends.

Samir and Habiba are very happy that their love has resulted in another pregnancy for Habiba.

Samir is busy gaining loyalty stars for his shop Abdellaouis Machtig Mooie Meubelen. He also purchased a small shop, but he hasn’t invested in that one much.

Stefano Bigoli
Or Don Lothario as we all know him. He has decided he can’t live without his best mistress ever, Nina Heethart (Caliente in English) and asked her to move in with him. Stefano is a 1-7-8-5-4 Leo with the LTW to become Hall of Famer. That’s why I keep him loyal to Nina.

When Nina moved in I discovered how lucky I am: she also has the LTW to become Hall of Famer. She is 8-2-9-2-4 Scorpio. Both have started in the Althetics career, which brought me one of my favorite photos:

However, Stefano had some unfinished business with Alexandra van de Kerkhof (Cassandra Goth). The engagement ring started to feel like a trap. So one evening he invites her over when Nina is there. In a split second Alexandra puts 2 and 2 together and slaps Stefano in the face:

After that Alexandra is glad to accept that the engagement is off. And Stefano returns to Nina.

Regine Koelstra
Then it was time again for a YA. Regine Koelstra is a knowledge sim with the want to become a mad scientist. She is a 6-3-6-5-5 cancer who studies hard.

However, she soon falls head over heals in love with Edwin Meulendijk and he loves her too.

Regine wants to be secure too and asks him to get engaged to her, which he accepts.

Besides that, her life is the regular uni go to college, write paper, and learn how to etc.

The Blut family
Who doesn’t know Wendy Blut (Brandi Broke), the woman left poor and unhappy with two sons and a third on the way? In my game, she has the want to marry off 6 children and she is a 3-6-4-6-6 aries. Her eldest son Douwe is a fortune sim with the LTW to become a business tycoon. He has the same stats as his mom. Bastiaan, the toddler, is a 6-7-4-3-5 gemini.

Douwe is very happy with Angela Plezant and he asks her to his home very often.

Bastiaans toddlerhood doesn’t take long, that goodness, and very soon he grows up into a fine child.

In the meantime, Wendy has gotten over her sorrow for the death of her former husband and found a new love in Menno Landgraaf IV (yes, Malcolm Landgrab from Bluewater).

It’s not only for the money that Wendy proposes to him. Lucky for her, he accepts.

Than this family got the biggest surprise, no the biggest shock in the world. Wendy gave birth to twins: Gerard and Gerben Blut. However, before long Wendy hears a familiair tune when she has another woo-hoo with Menno. Number 5 (and 6?) is on the way!

The Boersma family
I forgot to take pictures of them completely. But I imagine you can picture them. John is a familysim with the LTW to graduate 3 children from college *sigh*. He is a 4-4-4-7-6 aries. Jennifer is a fortunesim with the LTW to become a business tycoon. She is a4-7-6-3-5 gemini. Their daughter Loesje is a 6-4-3-7-5 cancer.

There isn’t much that happened to this family. They went to live Downtown BTW.

Stay tuned for more Droomzicht prosperity!

It’s been a while

It’s been a while since I posted here, let alone since I posted a story. I haven’t stopped playing Sims2 though, I just find it hard to make time to write a story.

Yet I can’t really let go of storytelling, so I am preparing 2 stories!. One will be in Dutch and will be about my Boomtown challenge. This challenge is going really well so far. Now I want to try tell stories in my native language about them. Something which I haven’t done as much as telling stories in English.

Also I have started recently a new Prosperity challenge. My allergy about uni isn’t as strong anymore, so I have dared to start all over. I will start posting about these families anytime soon on this blog. Yes, it will be in English.

But what about your family & fortune challenge, some might ask. You’re right, I have completely forgotten about them. Boomtown has a lot of the same elements but is more interesting due to the different classes that are involved. So at this point I don’t know if I will ever start a family and fortune challenge myself. I might use the different scoring to compare it’s outcome with the traditional scoring of Prosperity and Boomtown, see if the number of points will be very different or not.

Talk to you soon!

Family & Fortune challenge - new prosperity variety

Driven by the want to combine my two favorite challenges - Neighborhood Challenge and Prosperity Challenge - and by the boredom of playing university, I have created a new challenge, called the Family and Fortune challenge. It is really a combination of these 2 challenges, but the base document for the rules is the Prosperity challenge. I eliminated the university parts, added some elements from the neighborhood challenge and put my own flavour to it, resulting in a new scoring too.

Besides the elimination of university, the challenge isn’t started by families but by single adult founders. I integrated OFB already.

Of course I’m open for suggestions …. and for people wanting to compete with me ;) Storylines are for sissies ;) )))))) * uh, I mean, looking for people who are looking for a non-uni challenge and explore the possibilities of interesting storylines without SimState or Academie Le Tour.

OK, I’m serious again now and I want to thank Sheri, Robin and Rachel for them letting me use elements of their challenges to create the Family & Fortune Challenge.

The complete rules with full credit have been uploaded to both the TS2challenges and the Prosperity group. This week, I will upload a score- and tracking sheet too.

Family & Fortune Challenge: rules and scoring

Family & Fortune Challenge

This challenge has been created by mixing up my two favorites, Prosperity and Neighborhood, and keeping the best of both. Before I continue describing this challenge, I want to give credit first to Rachel for creating the Neighborhood Challenge and to Robin and Sheri for creating the Prosperity Challenge. Much of the actual wording of this challenge is copied directly from the Prosperity Challenge for the situations that were not, or only slightly, changed. They were written by the original authors of that challenge.

The other reason I created this challenge, is because I was looking for a generational challenge that wouldn’t give so many points for university achievements. In this challenge, playing university is just one possible strategy towards its goal: a crowded and wealthy neighborhood. (more…)
